FAQ

Pitt Pharmacy's summer camp for prospective PharmD students

Who should apply?

Rising high school juniors and seniors with an interest in health sciences or pharmacy practice! No previous pharmacy experience is necessary. Our goal is to introduce you to the fascinating world of pharmacy and highlight ways that Doctors of Pharmacy are uniquely qualified as vital members of the patient care team.

 When is Camp This Year?

Both virtual and in-person camps will be July 17 – 22, 2022. We are planning to move forward with the in-person camp, although it is subject to change due to COVID-19 guidelines and university approval.

Do I get to choose if I attend the in-person or virtual camp??

You will be asked your preference on which camp you would like to attend in the application. The virtual camp is offered for students who may not be able to travel to Pittsburgh, are concerned about COVID-19, or would prefer to experience the camp from home. The in-person camp is slightly more competitive, as there are limited spots, but you will be notified as to which camp you’ve been accepted to before any commitment is made.

How do I attend the Virtual RxPLORE Camp?

Due to COVID-19, we will be offering a virtual option in addition to the in-person camp.

Participants will be issued a temporary Pitt student account to access MyPitt (my.pitt.edu), your personal guide to the Pitt experience! From this student portal, you will have secure access to multiple online learning platforms (like Zoom and CANVAS) designed to optimize the remote camp experience.

Additionally, all campers will receive an RxPLORATION Toolkit packed with PittPharmacy gear, in the mail so they can participate in the fun activities we have planned for the virtual camp.

When will I hear back about my decision?

RxPLORE will accept applicants for Early Decision consideration until March 15th. You will be notified by April 1st. Applicants for regular decision materials are due by May 1st. You will be notified by May 15th. Please allow adequate time for your application packet to be reviewed. If you have any questions about the status of your application, feel free to email rxplore@pitt.edu.

What are the costs and fees?

The cost of attendance for the in-person camp will be $450.00 and $100.00 for the virtual camp. A non-refundable deposit of $50 for virtual camp and a non-refundable deposit of $100.00 for in-person will be required 14 days after receipt of your acceptance to hold a seat. The remaining balance is due no later than June 5.

Transcripts and Letters of Recommendation should be emailed directly to rxplore@pitt.edu.

Am I eligible for a fee waiver?

Fee waivers are available to help pay for some or all of the registration costs. If you are interested in requesting a waiver, please fill out the corresponding questions on the application with the most accurate information, so we can make the best assessment.
